The Boyd group is part of the Drug Delivery, Disposition and Dynamics theme at Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, located in Parkville, Melbourne, Australia. Our research is centred on structure in lipid and pharmaceutical systems. We use contemporary techniques to try to better measure, understand and control the self-assembly of lipids and other components to impart favourable behaviour – and if the technique to measure it doesn’t exist we invent one. In particular it is often desirable to impart responsiveness of materials to certain stimuli (light, heat, magnetic field, enzymatic processes, ionic strength etc) to enable control over drug release ‘on-demand’. Alternatively, the understanding of structure may be of a more fundamental importance, such as understanding structure in digesting lipid systems to facilitate rational improvements in nutritional or drug delivery outcomes.
