Cindy Xiao

PhD student

Yunxin Xiao (Cindy) is currently completing her last year of Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science Advanced with Honours degree in Monash University, Parkville. Having completed summer scholarship project and placement project in Professor Ben Boyd’s group during her undergraduate study, she decided to continue her honours study with the group. Her honours project is looking at using copper-free click chemistry modified liposomes to achieve targeted delivery to cancer cells by making use of the sugar metabolic labelling technique. She enjoyed her honours year experience with the group so much that she strongly wish to stay with the group for a PhD degree to pursue her enthusiasm for science.During her honours year, she learned a wide range of cutting-edge scientific techniques such as cryo-TEM, X-ray scattering, neutron scattering and etc. She was awarded the Australian Institute of Nuclear Science and Engineering (AINSE) Honours Scholarship and attend the 21st AINSE Nuclear Science Winter School in 2017. She also attend the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) Conference in 2016, International Conference of Undergraduate Research (ICUR) in 2017 and Drug Delivery Australia 2017.

In her spare time, she trains herself on a daily basis in the gym, and goes swimming from time to time. She also enjoys playing badminton with friends but her favourite sport is definitely skiing. Picking up skiing just earlier this year in Korea, she sees herself in making the full use of the southern hemisphere ski season to fill her whole-year ski schedule in the future years. In addition, she also enjoys hanging out with friends especially for events like clubbing and karaoke.
